Area guide: Woodside SILICON STAR

Like most towns of its size, Woodside has a local pub. Unlike most other towns, however, The Village Pub specializes in fine dining and boasts a Michelin star. Woodside is also home to the renowned Buck’s of Woodside restaurant (above), a favorite of Silicon Valley tech titans, and the place where many venture capital deals are sealed. Unsurprising then that Woodside, thought to be one of the oldest English-speaking settlements in the southern part of the San Francisco Peninsula, is today one of the wealthiest towns in California. As well as tech, tack is big—the town’s horse tack store shows the popularity of equine pursuits and trails can be found at Wunderlich Park and Purisima Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve. Nearby towns and cities include Redwood City, San Carlos, Palo Alto, and of course San Francisco. Just 23 miles (37 km) away, it makes flying to Los Angeles a breeze at just 60 minutes. New York can be reached in six hours.
